output:XStat® is a hemostatic device that is a first-of-its-kind solution for the treatment of shrapnel and gunshot wounds. A syringe-like applicator is used to inject a group of small, rapidly-expanding sponges into a wound cavity, which is how XStat operates. An x-ray detectable marker is present in each sponge. The XSTAT sponges expand and swell to fill the wound cavity within 20 seconds of contact with blood in the wound. This generates hemostatic pressure and provides a temporary obstruction to blood flow.
