ULTRASONIC DOPPLER ANIMAL BLOOD PRESSURE SYSTEMThe Vet-Dop2 is employed to monitor blood flow at the extremities during surgery, to screen for hypertension, to check blood pressure during surgery, and to verify the integrity of blood vessels following trauma and prior to amputation. The non-invasive Doppler technique is the preferred method for measuring blood pressure in animals weighing less than 15 pounds, particularly cats. Other methods, such as monitors that employ the oscillometric technique with software that has been validated for small animals, may not be able to calculate pressures as quickly, particularly in the case of awake, smaller patients. The Vet-Dop2 is also capable of detecting blood flow at the base of the tail in horses and is effective on larger breeds. Experts in the field of veterinary blood pressure measurement prefer the Vet-Dop2 as the Doppler of choice.
