Push the piston completely into the aspiration syringe, press down on the catch, and remove it from the peel pack. Extract the injection needle from the package and secure it to the cone of the syringe. Remove the protective cap from the biopsy needle and maintain the needle cone in an upright position. Connect the biopsy needle with the inserted stylet to the cone of the syringe by maintaining it upright. After local anesthesia and cutaneous incision with the scalpel, penetrate itercostally until the peritoneal cavity is reached. Flush the cannula with approximately 2 cc of saline solution. If the flow resistance is high, the canula tip is still obstructed by the intercostal muscle, necessitating a slight advance. By retracting the piston until it is securely in place, a vacuum is generated. Rapidly penetrate the liver and extract the needle while the patient maintains his or her breath. Following the biopsy, depress the red catch, advance the piston, and dispose of the specimen and any remaining contents of the syringe into a container.
